The General Presidency for the Affairs of Two Holy Mosques on Tuesday increased the operational capacity of Masjid Al Haram, Makkah by over 60% for Ramadan.
On November 1st, 2020 the Grand Mosque had entered the Phase 3 Operational Plan devised by the Ministry of Interior according to which the maximum operational capacity was to be 20,000 pilgrims and 60,000 worshipers on any given day.
According to new directives, starting from 1st Ramadan 1442, the maximum number of pilgrims who can perform Umrah each day would be increased to 50,000 a net increment of 30,000, and the number of worshipers participating in daily prayer has been increased from 60,000 to 100,000, a net increment of 40,000 worshipers.
Additionally, the precautionary measures have been tightened to combat COVID-19 spread by mandating Vaccinations against COVID-19 as a requirement to obtain permits to perform Umrah or to attend Prayers at the Grand Mosque.
