Lagos Islamic scholar, television/radio presenter, Qamardeen Ajala, has added voice to the alleged plan to dethrone the Amir ul- Mumineen, calling on the Sokoto state state government to banish that idea if it was ever muted.

In a statement sent to KaabaNews, Imam Qamardeen Ajala said Sultan is not only a Muslim leader in Sokoto but Amir-ul-Mumineen in Nigeria, adding that the governor will offend the Nigerian Muslims if the plan is hatched.

The statement reads in part:

“I, Amir Qamarudeen Ajala, the founder of Markaz Dawati Ila llahi Islamic Center, a presenter of Islamic programme on MITV and Radio Nigeria BOND FM and a private HAJJ operator, solemnly decry the planned removal of Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar from the throne.

“The Sultan of Sokoto has been a symbol of unity among the Muslims in Nigeria in the area of Moon Sighting preparatory for Ramadan, which is vital religious exercise that had always been a major challenge until his ascension to the throne on November 2, 2006.

“Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar’s administration as the Sultan of Sokoto has equally ensured a long standing record of non-collision of sacrifice on Eid-el-Adha day with the day of Arafah nationwide. This indeed is worthy of commendation.

“Equally, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar is an entity and a leader that symbolizes peace on religious matters. That office and its past and current holders have never performed below expectation.

“The position of the Sultan of Sokoto is religious and not political just like the Sultan is leader not only to Sokoto Muslims but of entire Nigerian Muslim Ummah. So, the drum for removal of the Sultan is politically motivated and a ploy to cause disunity among the Muslims in Nigeria.

“In conclusion, we vehemently stand against any such move that will threaten the peace, harmony and unbroken relationship that exist among the Muslims in our dear country, Nigeria.
