National Amir (President), The Companion, Ahaji Thabit Wale Sonaike has urged Muslisms to celebrate the eid-el-fitr in moderation and in strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols.

In his eid-el-fitr message sent to Vanguard yesterday, Alhaji Sonaike rejoiced with Muslims on the occasion, adding that generousity and concern for the welfare of fellow Muslims and all humanity is part of acts of worship in Islam.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to regularly address Nigerians on burning issue of insecurity in the country inorder to be seen to have full control of the situation.

Alhaji Sonaike said: “On behalf of myself and the entire members of The Companion, I congratulate and rejoice with all Muslims globally on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan Fast and the Eid-el-Fitri festivities. I pray Allah to accept our fast and other acts of Ibadah. Aamin.

“I urge all Muslims to celebrate in moderation and in strict compliance with COVID -19 protocols and regulations as directed by respective authorities. This is very essential for our individual protection and public safety. We must also continue to be generous and show concern for the welfare and well being of fellow Muslims and indeed humanity as a whole.

“I use the opportunity of the Eid to call on all Muslims in Nigeria and elsewhere to be security conscious and report any suspicious breach to the appropriate authorities. We must cooperate with government to return peace and progress to Nigeria and the sub- region as a whole. We as Muslims must also not relent in our prayers for peace and tranquility.

“The government at all levels must also be on the alert as the insecurity scourge pervades the nation. Government must constantly remember that its primary purpose is the welfare and security of citizens. The armed forces must recruit and train fresh personnel to replace the depleted soldiers on account of Boko Haram insurgency.

“Also, the Police needs new Officers, better funding and new equipment to meet the challenges of the time. Our ratio of Police to Citizens must be improved upon to move closer to United Nations recommendation of One Police to 400 people. Our President is encourage to address Nigerians on burning issues as the need arises and be seen to take charge of the country as a whole. Nigeria requires a purposeful leadership at all levels and across board now more than ever before.

“There must be full cooperation and support of all concerned and politicians must shun politicization of the insecurity and show great restraint in their utterances. We also call for meaningful dialogue involving all stakeholders to douse the palpable insecurity tension in the country.
