Amid pomp and pageantry, the Owu Muslim Community bestowed the title of Baba Adeeni of Owu Kingdom on Alhaji Dr Ismail Adebola Akindele last Monday.

The occasion held at the Owu Central Mosque, Abeokuta drew the crème de la crème of the ancient city, friends and well-wishers from far and near. Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were,

Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Prof. Saka Adeola Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII; Sultan of Owu Muslims, Dr. M.A Ola Yusuf, Oloriparakoyi of Owu Kingdom and Sarumi of Egbaland; Alhaji Sarafadeen Tunji Isola, Baba Adeeni of Yorubaland; Alhaji Bakare Okedara; Prof Mujaid Adelekan; Engr Dr/ Ahmed Apanpa among others.

The turbaning was conducted by Imam Iskeel Muhammad (Sugar) with the support of other eminent Imams in Owu Community and beyond.

Responding, the new Baba Adeen appreciated the council of Imams and the entire community, adding that whoever takes the mantle of leadership knows the burden of responsibilities. He called on other notable personalities to join hands in bringing more developments to the community.

“I am humbled and elated to be so privileged to have been given this responsibility to serve Almighty Allah and humanity in general.”

On his plans for the Muslim community, he said he would continue to serve humanity, adding that as a Muslim, that is the essence of life. “We have to continue to serve humanity, because we all hope for the reward only from Allah and to be granted al-Janah.”

Speaking at the turbaning, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, HRM, Oba Saka Adeola sermonise on having good intention in the act of charity and philanthropism. Quoting from the Quran, Suratul-Maun, the Monarch advised Muslims to only seek the gains of the hereafter in their acts of charity, rather than seeking to gain popularity through public donations.
