As pilgrims are arriving Madinah for my Hajj and Umrah, and probably not having any riyals in your wallet, or you want to pay for a service or buy something urgently, please know that one dollars is exchanged for 3.70 Saudi Riyals.
There are also some recognised and authorised bureau de change at airports that ease up your quest for the quich exchange. At the airport in Madinah or Jedah, a dollar does goes for 3.75 Saudi Riyal, a little higher than what you get on the streets in Madinah. This is mainly available through the ATM.
In Harram in Madinah mainly near gate 25 you can easily get Riyals at 3.70 for a dollar.

The Saudi riyal has been the currency of Saudi Arabia since the country came in to being and was the currency of Hejaz before Saudi Arabia was created. In June 1986, the riyal was officially pegged to the US Dollar at a fixed exchange rate of 1 U.S. dollar = 3.75 riyals.
