Eid-ul Mawlid: Ogun Muslims Council urges solidarity with flood victims

The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC), under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, as President-General, has called on Muslims across the state and Nigeria to use the occasion of Eid-ul Mawlid (the celebration of birth of Prophet Muhammad) to show solidarity with the people and government of Borno State, describing the devastating flood as heartbreaking and tragic.

OMC urged prayed for those affected by the recent devastating floods that have compounded the state’s struggle to recover from the long-standing impacts of terrorism and banditry.

The Council acknowledged the increased burden the floods have placed on Borno, and commended efforts being made to provide relief and support for the people of the state.

OMC equally extended its sympathies to the governments and people of Sokoto, Bayelsa, and other states that have experienced similar disasters, offering prayers for divine mercy and protection against future calamities.

In light of the environmental challenges being experienced in some parts of the country, the Council called on the governments and the general public to take proactive measures to prevent and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

It stressed the need for adherence to environmental laws and safety practices that can safeguard lives and property during such occurrences, while also charging the people to take to the alert and warning by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) on weather and climate forecasts as a way of preventing and reducing the impact of disaster occurrences.

OMC emphasized the importance of enforcing relevant laws and regulations, which it believed would ensure the safety and protection of citizen against natural disasters.

“The N3 billion Ecological Fund provided to each state by the Federal Government is a noteworthy and commendable step,” the Council remarked, urging state governments to utilize the funds wisely and prudently to address environmental challenges.

On the current economic hardship, the Ogun Muslim Council expressed concern over the difficulties Nigerians face due to the rising cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other essentials of life.

It highlighted the ongoing struggles with insecurity and the food crisis,noting that life has become unbearable for many.

While acknowledging the efforts of the government in trying to alleviate the situation, OMC urged both the federal and state governments to accelerate their plans to revamp the economy.

The Council called for immediate and pragmatic steps to lower the soaring prices of food and essential commodities, as the burden of inflation affects both the rich and the poor alike.

As the political atmosphere begins to heat up in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, the Council advised politicians to act with caution and responsibility, ensuring that their actions contribute to peace and stability in the nation.
