FCT minister urges intending pilgrims to key into Hajj savings scheme

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello has advised Abuja intending pilgrims to take advantage of the provision of the Hajj Savings Scheme to save and experience a stress-free pilgrimage.

Bello gave the advice at the launching of the Hajj Savings Scheme by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), on Thursday in Abuja.

NAHCON recently signed an agreement with Jaiz Bank Plc, to fast-track the implementation of the Hajj savings scheme in the country.

The Scheme would allow every Muslim, who intend to perform Hajj to be enrolled through the Pilgrims’ Welfare Board in all the 36 states, agencies and commissions or NAHCON offices across the country.

The minister assured that the FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board would continue to work very closely with NAHCON to key into the scheme.

Represented by Malam Bashir Muhammad, the Director, FCT Department of Human Resources Management, also pledged that FCT pilgrims board would take advantage of the various forward looking policies for the benefits of its pilgrims.

He commended the current management of NAHCON for it’s determination to see that the scheme was up and running to meet the objective for which it had been established.

” As you may all know, I was privileged to served Nigerian pilgrims through the commission between 2007and 2015.

” And one of the tasks we embarked on was establishing the hajj savings scheme,” Bello said.

Also speaking, Mr Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) advised the management of NAHCON to work against cyber scammers who may take advantage of the scheme to defraud subscribers.

Represented by Mr Olusegun Adekune, Permanent Secretary, General Service, Office of the SGF, Mustapha, said government encourage programmes that have positive socio-economic impact on Nigerians and that the Hajj savings scheme was one of such.

The Chairman, House Committee on Pilgrimage Affairs, Rep. Hassan Nalaraba, assured the support of the National Assembly for the success of the scheme. (NAN)
