Former Head of Interim govt, Ernest Shonekan dies at 85

Former Interim Head of the Nigerian Government, Ernest Shonekan, is dead. He was 85 years of age.

Shonekan, who succeeded the military
government of General Ibrahim Babangida following the crisis that engulfed the nation after the annulment of June 12, 1993 election was said to have died in the early hours of today, Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

He was said to have died in one hospital  in Lekki, Lagos.

The cause of death could not be ascertained as of press time but it was learnt that Shonekan, a native of Ogun State, had been treating an undisclosed illness before his death.

He was the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26 and November 17, 1993 before he was subsequently, kicked out in a bloodless coup led by late General Sani Abacha.
