Kano State government has on Wednesday filed a fresh five-count-charge to arraign the late Hanifa Abubakar’s killer, Abdulmalik Tanko and his two accomplices before a Kano State High Court.
The State’s Director Public Prosecutions, Bar. Aisha Mahmoud disclosed this to newsmen after the case came up for mentioning at the Magistrate court.
Bar. Mahmoud said the govt filed the charge at the High Court because the Magistrate court lacks the jurisdiction to hear the cases filed against the defendants.
According to her, “Considering the offences committed by the accused persons and considering the fact that this court don’t have the jurisdiction to hear the case, we informed the court that we have filed a five count charges before the High Court. The Chief Judge has directed the case to Court 5 and they are expected to fix a date for the persons to be arraign before the court.

“Based on this, we appeal to the court that the accused persons be remanded pending when the case will come up at the High Court,” Bar. Mahmoud stated.
The Magistrate court presided over by Chief Magistrate Mohammed Jibrin granted the prayers and ordered the accused persons to be remanded in custody.
Chief Magistrate Jubril however adjourned the case to February 9th, 2022.
The charges filed against Abdulmalik and his accomplice borders on criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, confinement and culpable homicide contrary to section 97, 274, 277, 221 of the penal code.
