MAKKAH:
For decades, millions of pilgrims have journeyed to the sacred site of Arafat during Hajj, often facing scorching heat and challenging conditions.
Now, thanks to a new project by Kidana Development Co., a company entrusted with developing the holy sites, pilgrims can look forward to a more comfortable experience amid the bustling surroundings of Namira Mosque.
Kidana Development, the master developer of Makkah’s sacred areas and the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, has launched a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing shade and cooling solutions in the courtyards of Arafat’s Namira Mosque. The project, set to be implemented during this year’s Hajj season, is designed to ease the journey for worshipers performing their rituals in extreme weather conditions.
Spanning 85,000 square meters, the project involves planting 2,000 trees in the eastern courtyards to create natural shade and improve the environment. Extensive infrastructure for water and electricity networks is also being installed, alongside the construction of 320 canopies and the setup of 350 misting fans to help pilgrims stay cool as they perform their sacred rites.
This initiative is part of a broader effort not only to enhance the pilgrimage experience but also to align with Saudi Arabia’s vision for environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, as part of the “Green Holy Sites” initiative under the Saudi Green Initiative, Kidana has already completed planting 20,000 trees across a massive 290,000 square meters of land around the holy sites. This effort aims to expand green spaces, improve air quality, and foster a more natural environment for both pilgrims and local communities.
