Following series of molestation by her step brother, a 20-year-old girl Sherifat Suleiman, has committed suicide in Ikorodu area of Lagos. The incident occurred at about 4pm on Sunday, in Isawo area.
The deceased who lived with the brother Malik Sulaimon, in a room-&-palour apartment in Isawo were said to always be at logger-head at any slightest provocation until she could no longer bear it and decided to take her life.
Sherifat, who was preparing for West African Examination Council (WAEC), was compelled to be living with the brother following the death of their father but their staying together was not that peaceful and full of molestation by the brother until it got to a peak last Sunday when she was tortured by her brother.
Having recovered from the torture, she was said to have angrily went into the neighborhood and bought a container of a highly concentrated insecticide called snipper which she drank on her way home.
As she was doing this, a little girl who noticed what was going on, raised the alarm but before neighbours could rush to the scene, Sherifat was found lying on the floor discharging from her mouth.
Immediately, she was rushed to a nearby hospital but she died on the way.
When the news of her death was broken, the step brother was said to be jostling for help but when the reality dawned on him, he was said to have broken into tears and quickly wrapped the body heading for their home town in Ijebu area of Ogun State for burial.
Residents testified to the fact that the lady decided to take her life when she could no longer withstand both physical and psychological assault by her brother.
Out of concern, sympathisers were said to have examined the body only to notice bruises on her legs and laps just as Maliku was said to have hurriedly took the corpse to Ijebu before the arrival of thePolice.
