Makinde pledges support for Hajj Saving Scheme in Oyo …As Prof Malik lauds NAHCON, harps on benefits of the scheme

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has pledged his support to ensure the success of Hajj Saving Scheme. HSS, in the State.
The governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Alhaj (Chief) Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka made the pledged during the launch of the scheme in the State held at the Western hall Secretariat, Ibadan recently. The event was attended by eminent Muslim personalities in the state.
The governor added that his administration will continue to implement policies and programmes that will promote the welfare of the people and socio-economic development of the State.
“There is no doubt that the Hajj Savings Scheme is an initiative that will encourage more Muslims to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia. The scheme will also promote discipline and teach intending pilgrims to be financially prudent.

“I pledge my unflinching support for the success of the operation of Hajj Savings Scheme in Oyo State.  I wish to emphasize that the present administration in Oyo State will continue to implement policies and programmes that will promote the welfare of the people and socio-economic development of the State.
“I encourage all intending pilgrims in Oyo State to subscribe to the scheme.  In the name of Almighty God I launch the Hajj Savings Scheme in Oyo State today, the 28th of January, 2021.
“That this important event is taking place in Ibadan during my tenure as the Governor of Oyo State is a thing of joy. I therefore congratulate all Muslims-indigenes and non-indigenes resident in Oyo State for being alive to witness this ceremony.

“I also congratulate the Chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Alhaji Zikrullahi Kunle Hassan and his Commissioners for being able to actualize an important duty as enshrined in NAHCON’s establishment Act Section 7 sub section (1) which empowers the body to “establish, supervise and regulate a system of Hajj Savings Scheme to be operated by the Pilgrims Welfare Board of each stat e and FCT for interested pilgrims,” he said.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Prof. Sayed Tunde Malik said the cardinal objective of Hajj Savings Scheme was to make the performance of Hajj easier financially for the pilgrims, adding that “Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship” (Qur’an: 2:185)
He lauded the Chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON),
Alhaj Barr. Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, represented by the Southwest Commissioner in NAHCON, Alhajah Basirat Akintunde, for actualising the launch of the programme.
“Hajj Savings Scheme is a programme designed to assist all Muslims irrespective of financial status to save over a period of time for the purpose of performing Hajj. The deposited funds under Hajj Savings Scheme will be invested in shari’ah compliant ventures on behalf of the depositors. The profits made will be credited to the depositors according to Islamic formula of profit sharing. The scheme thus provides for the intending pilgrims the opportunity of performing Hajj through self-sponsorship.
He called on stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, Muslim societies and organisations, public commentators, the media and the Government to assist in enlightening the Muslim community on the need to embrace Hajj Savings Scheme in order to enjoy its benefits.
“Hajj Savings Scheme has many benefits. Some of them are as follows: It will be much easier for less privileged Muslims to perform Hajj with ease through a gradual and convenient savings scheme.
“The cost of performing Hajj would be subsidized by the profits accruing to the depositors from investment.
“Hajj Savings Scheme provides an alternative means of financial inclusion and economic empowerment for Muslims.
“The scheme will enhance advance planning for accommodation, feeding and airlift operation.
“Hajj Savings Scheme will strengthen the economic capacity of depositors.
Among dignitaries present at the launch were the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaj Sheikh Abubakri Agbotomokekere, the Chief  Imam of Oyo, Alhaj Sheikh Masud Abdul Ganiy Ajokidero; the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso; the Chief Imam of Saki; the Chief Imam of Ibarapa; including other Chief Imams; the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Alhaj Dawud Makanjuola Akinola; the Asiwaju Adini of Oyo State, Alhaj Mutiullah Abdul Azeez; Oladejo Onimalu; the Babasale Musulumi of Ibadanland, Alhaj (High Chief) Lateef Oyelade; the Baba Adini of Oyo State, Alhaj (Chief) Lamidi Ajadi; the Iya Adini of Yorubaland, Alhajah Sekinat Adekola; the Iyalaje Adini of Yorubaland, Alhajah (Chief) Sidikat Bolade Aderibigbe, including other Muslim title holders.
Others are honourable commissioners and permanent secretaries; the Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, Prof. M. T. Yahya; the Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Bushra Oloso, among others.
