As preparations for the 2025 Hajj season gather momentum, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has set a commendable standard with its meticulously planned and executed pre-Hajj preparatory visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Led by the Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, the delegation has demonstrated a deep commitment to ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims experience a seamless and spiritually enriching Hajj in 2025.
This year’s visit, which began on January 7, 2025, underscores NAHCON’s unwavering dedication to excellence in service delivery. The delegation, which included NAHCON commissioners, members of the National Assembly, representatives of State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, and other key stakeholders, engaged in a series of strategic meetings, inspections, and consultations aimed at optimizing the Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
Key milestones of the visit
1. Signing of the 2025 Hajj Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of the MoU between NAHCON and the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This critical agreement, signed on January 12, 2025, in Jeddah, formalized the terms of engagement for the 2025 Hajj season. It laid the groundwork for smooth operations, from visa processing to accommodation and transportation arrangements. The presence of high-ranking officials such as the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and representatives of the Saudi Ministry underscored the significance of this event.
2. Engaging with Service Providers:
NAHCON’s leadership, along with representatives from State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and Private Tour Operators, conducted rigorous inspections and consultations with service providers in Makkah and Madinah. These engagements focused on ensuring the highest standards in catering, accommodation, and transportation services. The delegation sought to address key concerns, such as the adequacy of toilet facilities in Mina, cultural sensitivity in meal preparation, and the comfort of pilgrims during movements between holy sites.
Through these discussions, NAHCON has emphasized its commitment to selecting only service providers with proven capacity and experience, particularly in serving African pilgrims. This proactive approach has set a benchmark for quality and accountability in Hajj operations.
3. Participation in the Hajj and Umrah Expo:
The Nigerian delegation also attended the prestigious Hajj and Umrah Expo in Jeddah, a global gathering of over 300 organizations and 130 experts dedicated to enhancing the Hajj experience through innovation and collaboration. The Expo provided a platform for NAHCON and other Nigerian stakeholders to explore cutting-edge technologies and best practices in Hajj operations. From AI-driven crowd management solutions to eco-friendly transportation options, the Expo highlighted the possibilities for elevating the pilgrim experience.
4. Collaboration with Stakeholders:
NAHCON’s pre-Hajj visit has been marked by an unprecedented level of collaboration among stakeholders. Meetings with the Forum of State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and Licensed Private Tour Operators (LPTOs) have fostered a spirit of unity and shared purpose. Key resolutions, such as the deadline for Hajj fare remittances and the streamlining of visa processing, reflect the collective commitment to delivering a successful Hajj.
5. Signing new contract agreement with new service provider Mashariq Al-Dhahabia Company.
In a significant achievement, NAHCON announced the 2025 Hajj fare, maintaining costs within a reasonable range despite global economic challenges. The fares, ranging from N8,327,125.59 for Borno and Adamawa zones to N8,784,085.59 for the Southern states, were the result of extensive consultations with stakeholders, including the Presidency and the Forum of State Executive Secretaries. This transparent and inclusive approach has earned widespread commendation.
The success of NAHCON’s pre-Hajj preparatory visit is a testament to the Commission’s visionary leadership and collaborative ethos. By prioritizing the welfare of pilgrims and engaging stakeholders at every level, NAHCON is setting a new standard for Hajj operations in Nigeria.
As Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman aptly stated, “The Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey for many pilgrims, and it is our duty to ensure that every Nigerian pilgrim experiences it with dignity, comfort, and peace of mind.”
With the groundwork laid during this visit, the 2025 Hajj season promises to be a milestone in Nigeria’s Hajj operations, reflecting the values of excellence, inclusivity, and innovation that NAHCON holds dear.
