As the Nation marks 63rd Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary – a Non-Governmental Organization – The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, has tasked Nigerian Leaders in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary to move from mere rhetorics to practical solutions to Nigeria’s development and prosperity.

It said this is the only way they could earn the blessing of God.

The group outlined some of the problems facing Nigeria, and suggested best ways of tackling them for future prosperity.

In its goodwill message released today to all Nigerians through the Media on the occasion of the Independence Anniversary, the the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria stated that, Nigeria does not lack economic, human and material resources to develop and.prosper, but regretted that the political class and their sycophants have always brandished fashionable ideas and ideals to do what is needed but failed woefully to do them after stepping into the positions of authority; pointing-out that leadership must shift from rhetorics to meaningful actualisation of promises – as good governance is the only antidote that could sustain the confidence of the people in any Administration.

In a press statement issued by the group and signed by its National Coordinator Alh. Ibrahim Abdullahi, it stated that time is ripe to re-examine the American model of Presidential Democracy and determine to remove certain aspects of it that are impediments to good governance including law reforms that could deal severely with the challenges we are facing in Nigeria today.

These according to the Group include political intolerance, insecurity, extreme corruption, tribalism, religious bigotry, drug-addition and peddling, ritual killings, abduction and kidnapping, murder, arson as well as serious economic crimes to mention a few.

‘These crimes have reached alarming dimension that call for stringent laws to reduce them to minimal level otherwise anarchy could set-in – God forbid’ it prayed.

The group therefore commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his new economic policies aimed at revamping the Nation’s economy but warned that ‘unless we tackle corruption headlong, not much can be achieved as business, industrialisation and economic prosperity cannot strive where corruption and insecurity permeate the Country as it is in the Country today’, the Group maintained.

MMWG said: ‘It is no longer news that job racketeering have pervaded Nigeria’s Public Sector for more than 15 years now; pointing-out that ‘it is a shame on the Country that some para-military and public service jobs are paid for before being secured; calling on President Tinubu to deal ruthlessly henceforth with such bad practices.

It also called on the FG to extend its economic reform to money-yielding agencies such as NNPC, NIMASA and all others as well as giving time-frame for restoration of power as energy has a lot to do with industrialisation and employment opportunities for the Nigerian Youths.

Also on economy, the group stated that Nigerians are awaiting industrial and commercial policies that would make it mandatory for Federal and State MDAs including the Executives, the Legislature and Judiciary to patronise existing Vehicle Assembly Plants operating in Nigeria for all vehicle needs to boost the Nation’s industrial growth; pointing out that most industrially developed Countries like Japan, China, Malaysia and others focused their developments by patronising locally made goods, vehicles and equipments.

FUEL PRICES

On fuel prices, the Group called for time-frame for modernisation of the Nation’s Refineries to crash-down prices of petroleum products to reduce prices of goods and services in-order to bring relief to the suffering masses.

STRIKE

Finally, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria appealed passionately to the Labour Unions not to embark on any strike or industrial action now because of its negative effects on the common-man; adding that the Federal Government’s determined efforts to cushion the effects of hardship the new prices of petroleum brought on the people is very well-known to all that and efforts are being made to reduce it.

The Group finally urged all Nigerians to continue to pray hard for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration to succeed.
