The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has appointed Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu, as its new President-General, following the demise of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Matemilola emphasized the need for unity, saying, “Unity, brotherhood, and the eschewing of ethnic rivalry among Muslims are paramount.”
The Council also expressed concern over the decline of Arabic and Islamic Studies in public schools, citing the arbitrary transfer of qualified teachers. They’ve resolved to collaborate with the Union of Arabic Teachers to address the issue.
“There’s a need for Muslim professionals to pursue studies in these disciplines and make themselves available for public school postings,” the Council urged.
The meeting also touched on the Ibara Housing Estate Mosque contravention notice, with the planned demolition halted pending regularization of title documents.
The Council has accepted the request to host the 42nd National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in 2027 and plans to engage the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria for a medical outreach.
