The Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO) has called on the US President Donald Trump to reverse his declaration recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The organisation urged the U.S President to return to status quo to avert chaos. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the Mufti,The Muslim Congress, TMC, Sheikh Zhikirullah Shaafi along with other 12 Islamic
organisations condemned Trump, adding that the declaration could cause monumental crisis not only in the controversial area but around the globe.
Also speaking at the occasion, the founder of Fathi-ul-Qareeb, Shaykh Sulaiman Adangba noted that Trump’s declaration came at a time when the whole of the Middle East was embroiled in crisis which has resulted to several loss of lives, adding that Trump’s announcement could further cause greater chaos if not reversed. The cleric also called on the United Nations to take punitive measures against Trump’s administration.
The US vetoed Egyptian-drafted UN Security Council resolution rejecting Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. “The vetoing by the United States clearly shows the injustice in the U.N justice system. Is democracy no more relevant? A single nation’s vote renders ineffective that of 14 Security Council and 193 General Assembly members,” said Zhikirullah Shaafi.
