The Senate has officially confirmed Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), following a thorough evaluation process.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated Professor Usman for the position in August when the National Assembly was in recess.
Led by Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, Chairman of the parliamentary committee on Foreign Affairs, the evaluation was conducted in the parliament hall with other committee members.
Senator Bello expressed satisfaction with Professor Usman’s credentials, highlighting his expertise in Arabic Studies and Muslim Religious Knowledge.
“We have checked all the important documents of Professor Usman, and confirmed that he possesses the necessary knowledge and experience,” Senator Bello stated.
“He meets the requirements for the position, and we are confident in his ability to lead NAHCON effectively.”
The confirmation process began when Senator Muhammad Adamu Aleiru introduced the motion to confirm Professor Usman’s appointment, which was supported by Senator Shehu Buba Umar.
The majority of parliament members approved the motion, paving the way for Professor Usman’s confirmation.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move by President Tinubu, aimed at bringing stability and direction to the agency.
