Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Hameed is no longer listed among the official Imams of Masjid An Nabawi, Inside the Haramain has confirmed.
The absence of the Sheikh from leading prayers during the last ten nights of Ramadan 1446 was initially noted by observers and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque. While no official statement was released at the time, it was understood by multiple sources that the Sheikh had stepped aside from leading due to personal reasons.

The matter was further clarified during an official operational meeting held at Masjid An Nabawi on 8 May 2025 (10 Shawwal 1446). During the session, a presentation by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques listed 10 current Imams of Masjid An Nabawi—down from 11—signalling the absence of Sheikh Ahmed from the roster.
This method of subtle acknowledgement has precedent. A similar approach was observed last year when the number of Imams for Masjid Al Haram was revised during an operational meeting, confirming the quiet departure of Sheikh Yasir Ad-Dawsary, who was later re-appointed and his return confirmed through official channels.
It is worth noting that the General Presidency does not typically issue public statements regarding the dismissal, resignation, or extended breaks of Imams, and thus no direct confirmation or explanation is expected in this case either.
At present, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Hameed is not among the listed Imams of Masjid An Nabawi. While a return cannot be ruled out—as seen in past cases—his current status has been clarified according to several sources.
