Renowned Sunni Imam and American Preacher, Sheikh Dr. Yasir Qadhi has withdrawn from social media, saying he needed more time to concentrate more on writing and research.

Dr Yasir who was Dean of Academic Affairs at the Al-Maghrib Institute, an international Islamic educational institution with a center in Houston, Texas stated this on his Twitter handle, @YasirQadhi, Wednesday 5:40 AM, Aug 9, 2023.

He maintained that although social media has its utility, he however prefers to use his time elsewhere and thus hands over his account to his manager.

The tweeted message reads:

“Alḥamdulillah, for almost fifteen years, I have been directly managing my social media accounts, and its been a very useful learning experience. While of course there is much benefit online, it is time for me to move on.

“As I come close to beginning my fifth decade on this earth, and my responsibilities increase, I need to concentrate more on writing and research, and prepare for my journey onwards.

“Social media has its utility, but for me I believe the best use of my time is elsewhere (and yes, the negatives of the online environment are a factor in this decision). I will no longer be monitoring Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other outlet, nor will I be posting directly on them. Instead, my admin will take over my accounts, and mainly post about activities or projects or lectures that I’m involved with.

“I ask Allah to forgive my sins and mistakes, and guide me to be of benefit to the Ummah.

“Your brother,

Many of his followers and admirers hailed the decision and gave him thump ups. Some of the comments include

“MashaAllah Very good decision.

“We will definitely miss your interactions online and your wonderful insights. May Allah continue to put Barakah in your life and works. Jazakallah Khair for all services you do for the ummah. Ameen
