ARenowned sports enthusiast and communication expert, Dr. Abdulmumim Alao, has been elected as the President of the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) at the organization’s 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Sunday at the University of Lagos College of Medicine.
The AGM held at hall 36 of the University of Lagos College of Medicine, Idi-Araba, Mushin Lagos was well attended by members clad in various attires.
Alao takes over from Prof Khalid Adekoya who steered the affairs of the alumni for the last two years. The Complete Sports Managing Director, at the end of the shurah committee report headed by Prof Lukman Adams, was announced as the president of the association to steer it for the next two years.
Though he was not physically present at the AGM but participated actively online as he was said to be on a national assignment outside Lagos State, he was delighted with the announcement of his name as the new man at the helm of affairs of the illustrious Muslim Alumni.
Dr Alao promised to work assiduously in promoting the cardinal objectives of the association and lead in front. Alao said innovation and strategic ideas will be injected into the association as he affirmed that the membership drive of the association will be vigorously pursued. Giving the acceptance speech on his behalf, Deputy President iii of the association,
Alhaja Muhidat Kemi Bello said the executives have accepted to serve the association and would do their best in proper positioning and membership drive with an injection of innovative ideas.
The immediate past president of the association, Prof Adekoya who gave an account of his stewardship assured the new executive members of adequate support and offered useful ideas as to how to rightly steer the affairs of the alumni. Prof Adekoya said during his tenure as President, the alumni were able to sponsor no fewer than 200 students with 37 on scholarship for their undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He also disclosed that the association is close to commencing the adopt a hostel programme where the association would be able to renovate and manage a hostel for the use of the students in the institution.
He said; “Our scholarship scheme has been a progressive one. Our scholars are fast becoming role models in the university system as some have reached professorial cadres in their field of endeavours. Our beneficiaries are close to 200 including 37 in the outgoing year. We now have more Ph. D.s that are awarded graduating both in Nigeria and diaspora.”

Other members of the newly sworn-in executives include Alhaji Muhammad Salam, Deputy President I; Prof Habeeb Tijani, Deputy President II; Alhaja Muhidat Kemi Bello Deputy President III; Prof Shakirudeen Odunuga, Vice President I; General Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Adebanjo; Assistant General Secretary, Abdulhakeem Qasim; Public Relations I, Dr Ganiyat Adenle-Tijani and Public Relations officer II, Alhaja Zainab Shogbesan.
Others are Abdulkabir Taiwo Kuye, Financial Secretary; Alhaji Muftau Tijani, Treasurer; Babatunde Yusuf, Internal Auditor; Prof Taofeeqah Adesalu Welfare I and Mr Sofiyullah Oladipo, Legal Officer.
The Shurah committee chairman charged them to ensure proper promotion of the association’s objectives and cardinal goals.
