In The heart of the holy city of Madinah, a remarkable story of devotion and service unfolded during the recent 1446 Hajj season. As millions of worshippers gathered at the Prophet’s Mosque, the General Authority for the Care of the Prophet’s Mosque sprang into action, providing essential services to meet the needs of the faithful.
For 15 unforgettable days, from the 15th of Dhul-Qi’dah to the first of Dhul-Hijjah, the Authority worked tirelessly to quench the thirst of pilgrims with the sacred Zamzam water. Over 218,336 bottles of this precious liquid were distributed throughout the mosque, with chilled drinking stations set up across the courtyards.
The numbers are staggering – 3,360 tons of Zamzam water were consumed, and over 14 million plastic cups were used to facilitate water access.
But the Authority’s efforts went beyond just providing water. As part of its seasonal hospitality program, 301,802 Iftar meals were served to fasting visitors in designated areas inside the mosque, bringing joy and nourishment to those observing the fast.
Behind the scenes, a team of dedicated workers labored to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the mosque. A staggering 52,625 liters of disinfectants and sanitizers were used to clean and sterilize the mosque’s interior and facilities, ensuring a healthy environment for all.

As the call to prayer echoed through the mosque, the air was filled with the fragrance of premium incense, carefully scenting the Rawdah areas, entrances, and corridors. A total of 7 kilograms of incense were used to create a spiritual atmosphere, enhancing the pilgrims’ experience.
For the pilgrims, these acts of service were more than just gestures of hospitality – they were a reflection of the community’s love and devotion. As one worshipper remarked, “The Zamzam water is not just a drink, it’s a blessing from God.” For many, the experience of drinking from the sacred well was a highlight of their pilgrimage.
As the core Hajj draws nearer, the General Authority for the Care of the Prophet’s Mosque looked back on a job well done, knowing that their efforts had made a tangible difference in the lives of millions of worshippers.
The story of the Zamzam water, the plastic cups, and the disinfectant used is a testament to the power of service and compassion.
